Project ARISE — AI-Assisted Removal of Invasive Species for Environmental Restoration
Our mission is to increase awareness about invasive species and break down the knowledge barrier surrounding invasive plant removal, using today’s technology to protect today’s environment — to innovate, educate, and rehabilitate.

Globally, invasive species are a factor in over 33% of animal extinctions and over 25% of plant extinctions. Their damage does not stop here — they spark a domino effect within our ecosystem’s food chains, and they pose a larger threat to urban function than most realize. Invasive plants block crucial city waterways, degrade water quality, and significantly increase the risk of wildfires, especially in our drought-prone, high-fire-risk state of California.
Each year, invasive species cost the United States $120 billion in taxes and damages, and invasive species are almost always introduced to ecosystems through human activity.

The Problem
Our Solution
An AI mobile app:
We’ve designed an innovative AI model that recognizes and classifies the most intrusive invasive plant life species with a 90% accuracy rate! We are currently implementing this into a mobile app.
Ultimately, our goal is to break down the knowledge barrier surrounding invasive plant removal — to provide this information to regular citizens and empower us all to combat invasive species.
Volunteer opportunities:
We regularly bring groups of volunteers to participate in local grassland restoration and invasive plant removal events. Visit our events page to sign up!
We also host educational workshops and events in order for everyone to become more informed about how invasive species affect our ecosystems and how they can help.
